Yemen is the birthplace of coffee culture, and we are honoured to be working with Qima to help re-introduce one of the rarest and finest specialty coffees on Earth.

Coffees from Yemen are very unique and distinct, and they deserve to be at the forefront of the specialty coffee industry.

We love coffees from Yemen, and are very happy to launch this coffee from Mohammed Qassim!

Mohammed is 32 years old and grew up in the village of Qabal. After he graduated from high school, he began to work alongside his father on the farm until he was able to manage it by himself. His high level of expertise in growing coffee led to his father choosing him out of his brothers to take over the responsibility of the farm.

With time, coffee became an increasingly important part of Mohammed’s life and his passion grew. He spends most of his time caring for his trees, starting at cultivation all the way to carefully picking the cherries. Mohammed is well known in his village as the best coffee farmer. He also enjoys helping and educating other farmers in best practices and methods for growing high-quality coffee. “The more you give, the more you get”, Mohammed said.

Al Qabal is a village of 700 people and enjoys very good farming conditions (lots of water and fertile soils) that aren’t found in many places in the country.

Price we paid Qima coffee for the green coffee: 55USD/kg (+ shipping cost from London to our roastery was around 3USD/kg)

This includes 5$ that went directly to the Qima foundation for their nursery project where they give farmers the best trees for their land. It cost approximately 0,50USD per tree.

Farmgate price (price Qima paid Mohammed): 25USD/kg of green coffee.

Total cost of exporting the green coffee to London, UK: 18,80USD/kg. The cost of transportation and overall logistics in Yemen is extremely high. Scarcity of resources, famine, and civil war, etc, make traveling and exporting product our of Yemen very challenging and pricey.

We know this coffee is more expensive, but it supports small holder farmers directly. 30kg is everything that Mohammed produced so paying a high price for such a rare, unique and tasty coffee is the right thing to do for us.

Yemen is one of our favorite coffee origins. It’s one of the consistently unique and distinct coffee origin we have ever experienced.

Yellow. That’s the first thing that popped to mind while sipping this for the first time. It’s full of yellow prune and bright citrus.

It’s a silky smooth coffee with a honey sweetness, and like many Yemeni coffees, we felt like it was somewhat spicy (think clove).
